As part of their commitment to innovation and the promotion of renewable energies, the Vall d'Uixó City Council and FACSA - the company that has been managing and operating the municipal drinking water service since 1996 - have launched a project that allows the energy generated by water as it circulates through the supply network to be converted into electricity.

Responding to the service-oriented nature of the pioneering entities, the first application of this initiative, which could be extended to other urban uses, will be the free recharging of mobile phones and other electronic devices through a totem installed on Corazón de Jesús Avenue in the municipality, between Xacó Street and La Paz Square.

The installation, inaugurated today by representatives of the city council and the Grupo Gimeno company, features eight USB ports and a Qi Wireless Charger, which transfers electricity to devices via radio waves. This innovative system allows for the simultaneous charging of up to nine electronic devices using hydraulic energy at no cost to either the user or the city council.

A hydrogenerator is responsible for collecting energy from the flow of water and transforming it, through an internal rechargeable battery, for storage and later use as electricity at the charging point.

As Óscar Peris, coordinator of the Southern Zone of FACSA, pointed out, “this application reaffirms the commitment of both entities to remain at the forefront of drinking water management, as well as their commitment to making the most of available resources.”.

The inauguration ceremony for the totem was attended by the mayor of Vall d'Uixó, Tania Baños, the councilor for Urban Planning, Francesca Bartolomé, the coordinator of the South Zone, Óscar Peris, and the head of service, Guillermo Urios.
