The commitment to technology and infrastructure renewal that the Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council and Facsa are carrying out has placed the hydraulic performance indicator of this municipality close to 90 %, around 20 points above the average of the Islands and only behind Formentera.
In this context, representatives of the city council visited the company's facilities in Castellón to learn about the latest technological developments under the Waternology by Facsa brand. As Josefa Torres, the city council's Environment Councillor, stated, "Our goal is to continue working with Facsa to further increase the efficiency of the service, which is vital given that our island's resources are very limited.".
The councilor was accompanied on the visit by Diego Ponce, municipal technician responsible for the Environment, Luis Miguel Redondo, head of Service of Sant Antoni de Portmany, and Rafael Ferrer, area coordinator.
First, they visited Facsa's remote control center where they learned firsthand how the digital solutions for smart water management that Facsa has implemented in the municipality work, "always under criteria of cybersecurity, transparency, innovation and sustainability," Redondo highlighted.
He also explained that the investments made in remote meter reading, remote control, network sectorization, and monitoring have been fundamental to achieving Sant Antoni de Portmany's current hydraulic efficiency. "These actions, as demonstrated by the service's performance, result in greater control and early detection of water leaks," he said. The remote control center has been able to verify this control and detection function firsthand.
Another objective of the visit was to learn more about the educational projects that Facsa carries out to promote a water culture, since, as the councilwoman stated, "environmental education must occupy a priority place in our classrooms so that new generations become aware of the situation we are in." The group toured both Facsa's Educational Classroom and its Vocational Training Classroom.
Currently, "The Water Cycle," one of Facsa's educational projects, is already being taught in this municipality through the Ibiza and Formentera Water Alliance. In this course, through the presentation of a comic book, the use of 3D tablets, and an experiment, first-cycle primary school students become involved in water conservation and learn about the complete water cycle.
