To commemorate World Environment Day, the Provincial Council of Castelló and Facsa They have launched a special activity in schools in the province in order to raise awareness among children about the importance of water as a scarce and basic public good for life and about how our habits influence the environment.
This year's edition, which began on May 31st in Barracas, will feature a series of activities designed to introduce schoolchildren to the complete water cycle, from collection, distribution, supply, sanitation, purification, and reuse, to its natural cycle. Students will also learn about the Water Footprint, an environmental indicator that measures human impact on the planet's water resources.
‘'The main objective of this campaign is to motivate people to become active agents of sustainable development from a young age, thereby fostering attitudes and behavioral patterns that promote respect for a resource essential to life, such as water,' they explained. Facsa.
The deputy in charge of the Water Cycle, Ignasi Garcia, has recalled the importance of “raising awareness among schoolchildren about water efficiency, water conservation, as well as the care and preservation of its quality, something fundamental for the sustainability of water and, therefore, of our planet” and has detailed that the municipalities that will participate in the activity in this edition are Sueras, Eslida, Fanzara, Vilafamés, Vilafranca del Cid, Sant Jordi, Morella, La Jana, Cervera del Maestre, Canet lo Roig, Jérica, Almedíjar and Barracas.
It is worth remembering that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12 and 13 of the 2030 agenda focus, on the one hand, on the need for people to have the relevant knowledge for sustainable development and, on the other hand, on improving education, awareness and human capacity regarding climate change mitigation.
Both the Provincial Council and Facsa are institutions committed to integrating the SDGs into their daily activities, therefore this alliance is part of a large number of initiatives that both entities carry out, individually or in collaboration, with the aim of promoting lifestyles in harmony with nature.
In fact, these days with a strong educational and awareness-raising component have many points in common with 'The Course of Water', the educational project carried out by Facsa, especially aimed at first cycle primary school students, with which the company seeks to raise awareness among the youngest children about the responsible use of this resource throughout the school year.
