The Consortium managing the Protected Landscape of the Mijares River Estuary, comprised of the municipalities of Burriana, Almassora, and Vila-real, the Castellón Provincial Council, and the Valencian Regional Government, has replaced all the damaged furniture and wooden markers along the botanical trail connecting the natural areas of Termet del Vila-real and the Santa Quiteria Hermitage in Almassora. The replacement work took a week and involved replacing the deteriorated elements on two sections of this riverside trail: the Botànic Calduch promenade and the section running from the entrance to the Los Ángeles residential area to Termet.
In addition, up to three kilometers of trail markers have been replaced, ensuring the safety of the thousands of hikers and athletes who use this greenway along the banks of the Mijares River. Specifically, the work has involved replacing the broken wooden fence separating the path from the river and substituting a section of rope that had rotted due to weather conditions with a metal cable.
The company FACSA, responsible for the maintenance and surveillance of the Mijares River Estuary Protected Landscape, carried out the improvement works that involved the rehabilitation of this stretch of just over three kilometers between the Termet de Vila-real and the Santa Quiteria area of Almassora. The works had a budget of 777 euros.
The Botanic Calduch route
In the Valencian Community, there are few examples of lower reaches of rivers where riparian vegetation is well-preserved and the riverbed has not been channeled. The final stretch of the Mijares River Estuary Protected Landscape is an exception. The river flows through an area of great ecological value with an exceptional riparian environment that is perfectly preserved in many places. One such place is the botanical route dedicated to the famous pharmacist and botanist Manuel Calduch, who was born in Vila-real. UNESCO recognized his herbarium as one of the best in the world, with more than 6,000 different specimens from across the Valencian Community.
The fence of Les Revalladores
The maintenance service of the Mijares River Consortium recently repaired the wooden and plastic fence surrounding the lookout tower in the Les Revalladores area of Almassora. It should be noted that this structure was repaired a couple of months ago, but unfortunately, a series of recent acts of vandalism destroyed the beacon again.
