The mayor of Castellón visits the 'Camí Pedrera' and 'Aljibes' water supply wells, managed by FACSA

Px Visit Facsa two

Castellón, July 20, 2017 – The mayor of Castellón, Amparo Marco; accompanied by the Head of Service of FACSA In Castellón, Manuel Breva, along with various technicians, visited the municipal water supply wells 'Camí Pedrera' and 'Aljibes'. These are two of the main facilities that, under the management of FACSA, supply drinking water to the city's urban area.

Specifically, both wells, located next to the CV-10 road, provide 50% of the more than 45 million liters of water that Castellón uses daily during the summer months.

The water source for the city is underground (100%), and, as both representatives of the Castellón-based company and the city council have emphasized, despite the current drought affecting the entire province, the supply for the capital of La Plana "is fully guaranteed," as both facilities have a significant reserve margin.

In this regard, in recent years FACSA and the Castellón City Council have jointly developed different initiatives to preserve this natural resource and promote more responsible water management, such as the use of reclaimed and lower quality water for street cleaning and garden irrigation.

In turn, FACSA has promoted different actions to improve energy efficiency These wells require additional energy to capture and pump this natural resource to the surface, as the underground origin of the water necessitates the use of additional energy. In this regard, the incorporation of new technologies and proprietary developments has allowed FACSA to obtain certifications such as UNE EN ISO 50001 in energy management and UNE EN ISO 14001 in environmental management.

Furthermore, the water from these wells stands out especially for its quality and has all the guarantees both from a health point of view and in relation to compliance with all the physical and chemical parameters that current regulations establish for drinking water intended for human consumption.

During the visit, the mayor of Castellón, Amparo Marco, stressed the importance of "guaranteeing the supply of water for human consumption during a particularly sensitive time like summer" and took the opportunity to appeal to the population to "continue using water rationally and as efficiently as possible.".

In this regard, he recalled that "there are small, everyday gestures that are essential to make optimal consumption of an essential and shared good such as water.".

For his part, Manuel Breva highlighted that “one of the main characteristics of these facilities is that they have been designed based on energy efficiency criteria to minimize their impact on the environment and, in addition, they have the latest technological advances, which allows them to maintain optimal performance throughout the year with minimal energy consumption.”.
