More than 100 cities around the world celebrated the fourth edition of Climathon last weekend. The world's largest climate change event saw teams working for 24 hours to generate ideas for solving various challenges related to combating climate change and protecting the environment.

In the case of Climathon Castellón – an event organized by the Facsa-UJI Chair of Innovation in the Integrated Water Cycle, the Ciutat de Castelló Chair, and the Castellón City Council – the challenge was to develop innovative and viable proposals that would transform the Marjalería wetlands into an exemplary space and a generator of resources. In this regard, the winning team, “Mójate por Castellón” (Get Wet for Castellón), proposed creating a system of aquifer recharge and protection networks in the Marjalería wetlands to provide the city with ”a sustainable, green, accessible, and enjoyable environment.”.

The event, held at the Casal Jove in Grao de Castellón, focused on four major challenges: renewable energy and water management; urban planning, mobility, and construction; agriculture and food; and economic development and tourism. To address these challenges, participants explored ideas such as the effects of climate change, social innovation, energy, the use of the area's water resources, the sustainability of organic farming, the preservation of flora and fauna, and mobility in the Marjalería wetlands.
