The APPWIND project consortium meets to advance the development of an urban digital twin capable of predicting the impact of odors and air pollutants in the city

Appwind

The APPWIND project aims to develop an innovative methodology to solve the complex problem of calculating the dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere with high resolution, quickly, at real scale, and in 3D. The project also utilizes digital 3D scanning tools, specialized instrumentation, and innovative experimental techniques for the development and validation of the digital twin.

The consortium for this project is made up of Facsa, The Universitat Jaume I (UJI) - coordinator of the project -, the University of Valladolid (UVa) and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), have recently met at the latter's facilities with the aim of analyzing the progress of the project.

Furthermore, APPWIND has been presented to the Besòs Tordera Consortium, an administration committed to the management of odor pollution that already integrates odor impact dispersion simulation tools for the management of treatment of wastewater and sanitation in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. The day concluded with a visit to Marenostrum IV, the largest supercomputer in Spain.

The APPWIND project is co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (PLEC2021-007943 / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033) and by the European Union “NextGenerationEU” / Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, within the State Program of R&D&I Oriented to the Challenges of Society, within the framework of the State Plan of Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2017-2020, the execution period of which will be until 2024.
