The Almassora Town Council and FACSA will begin work next Monday, June 18th, to renew the town's drinking water network. The work will start on Corell Street and will replace the old asbestos cement pipes with new polyethylene ones.
The works, which are expected to later extend to Nules, El Pino, Moncofar, and Segorbe streets, are part of the Master Plan for the Drinking Water Supply Service in the town. This plan is a study that both the Almassora Town Council and FACSA have launched to assess the current state of the infrastructure and propose technical solutions to improve the service currently provided to users.
“As part of the commitment to continuous improvement shared by both the Almassora City Council and FACSA, this project will enhance the town's drinking water infrastructure and increase the pipeline capacity, thereby preventing potential problems and providing residents with a better service,” stated Rafael Lahuerta, FACSA's service manager. He explained that the improvement “will result in more consistent water quality by implementing a looped network and eliminating the network ends.”.
For his part, the Councillor for Public Services of the Almassora City Council, Joan Antoni Trenco, has apologized in advance to the public for any inconvenience the works may cause, "which will have the direct consequence of improving the drinking water service.".
The service contract includes an annual allocation of €200,000 starting in 2018 for the renewal of hydraulic infrastructure. Among the projects approved by the Almassora City Council for the current year are, in addition to the work in the area around Corell Street, improvements to the beach area, Ponent Street, and the renovation of various sections of José Ortiz Avenue and Caridad and Santo Cristo Streets.
