The Almassora City Council and FACSA have chosen the Corell neighborhood as a priority area for the renewal of the drinking water network. This project marks the start of the Almassora Water Supply Service Master Plan, valued at €200,000, which in the case of Corell will involve replacing the old system along a 2.5-kilometer stretch of pipe. The work will take place throughout the month.
Regarding the specifics of the project, workers have begun installing 2,570 meters of new high-density polyethylene pipes of varying diameters, as well as 45 gate valves. They will also renew 188 water service connections and 23 irrigation outlets, complementing the existing ones, with new security mechanisms to prevent vandalism.
This is the first phase of a project agreed upon by the company and the city council to renew the oldest water pipes, and which will continue in the future with improvements on José Ortiz and Santo Cristo streets. The third phase will consist of replacing the drinking water pipes on Caridad Street, and the fourth, after the summer, will focus on Ponent Street near the beach.
The Councilor for Public Services of the Almassora City Council, Joan Antoni Trenco; the head of FACSA's local service, Patricia Agrasar; and the head of production for the Central Zone, Rafael Ferrer, visited the works being carried out on Corell Street and the adjacent streets of Nules, El Pino, Moncofa, and Segorbe. "Replacing the existing pipes, which were deteriorated due to their age, will be crucial to improving the service we provide to the neighborhood," Trenco stated.
According to FACSA representatives, the work consists of "the installation of a double polyethylene network that will allow the replacement of the current asbestos cement pipe that runs along the sidewalk, as well as increasing transport capacity.".
On the other hand, the Councillor for Public Services has pledged to coordinate with the concessionary company the resurfacing of the streets in poor condition once the work on the drinking water supply network is completed. “Despite the inconvenience of these past few days, which has resulted in occasional water service interruptions, the positive outcome of this project will benefit all the homes in the neighborhood,” he stated.
