We apply advanced modelling to anticipate and reduce odour impact.
Over 50 projects using dispersion and CFD software calibrated with real data, achieving odour reductions of up to 40%%.
At Facsa, we develop a comprehensive solution for managing odour impact at sanitation and treatment facilities, based on a combination of advanced modelling, field monitoring, and our operational expertise. By using atmospheric dispersion software and CFD tools, we simulate the behaviour of odorous compounds in real-world environments, taking into account both meteorological conditions and the complexity of the three-dimensional urban setting.
We have applied this methodology in over 50 projects throughout Spain, in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), biogas plants, and complex industrial environments. In cases such as the Pinedo WWTP or the Benicàssim WWTP, detailed modelling has enabled us to identify critical emission sources and evaluate different mitigation scenarios, optimising both the design of the facilities and their operation.
Our unique selling point lies in the calibration of models with real-world data obtained in the field, using portable stations and olfactometry, which allows us to adjust simulations to reality and reduce uncertainty in decision-making. Furthermore, we incorporate prediction platforms with a horizon of up to 72 hours, which help us anticipate odour episodes and adapt the operation of facilities in real-time.
As a result, the measures implemented have achieved reductions in odour impact of up to 40 %, improving regulatory compliance and, especially, relations with the local community and public perception. In this way, we are strengthening more transparent, efficient, and sustainable management of the integrated water cycle.
