We recover high-value nutrients from sludge to drive more sustainable agriculture
FertiLab converts sewage sludge into struvite, a biofertiliser rich in phosphorus and nitrogen to close the nutrient cycle.
At Facsa, we drive innovative solutions to transform sewage sludge into added-value resources. Through the FertiLab project, we are developing an advanced materials recovery model that allows us to obtain mineral fertilisers such as struvite, a compound rich in phosphorus and nitrogen with high agronomic interest.
This approach allows us to change the traditional waste management paradigm, transforming an increasingly complex byproduct into a local source of strategic nutrients. Struvite recovery not only reduces dependence on conventional mineral fertilisers but also contributes to closing the resource cycle within the territory itself.
The project is supported by advanced valorisation technologies and a comprehensive approach that includes the technical, environmental, and economic validation of the products obtained. Furthermore, it encourages their acceptance in the agricultural market through trials and analyses under real-world conditions, facilitating their large-scale implementation.
Thanks to this model, we promote more efficient, circular and low-impact agriculture, reducing emissions, favouring carbon sequestration in soils, and contributing to the sustainability of the agri-food system.
