We are modernising the Sa Pobla Wastewater Treatment Plant to improve energy efficiency and protect s’Albufera

Comprehensive expansion in Mallorca which increases treatment capacity by 54% and reduces nitrogen and phosphorus by 70–80%.

At Facsa, we have carried out the comprehensive expansion and modernisation of the Sa Pobla Wastewater Treatment Plant, in Mallorca, a strategic action aimed at reinforcing the sustainability of the water cycle in the municipality. The project has involved an investment of 7.4 million euros, with 60%% financed by ERDF funds, and has been developed over two years without interrupting the purification service, ensuring the operational continuity of the facility at all times.

Thanks to this intervention, we have increased treatment capacity by 54%, from 2,500 to 3,850 m³/day, allowing us to serve an equivalent population of up to 25,667 inhabitants. Furthermore, we have incorporated advanced biological processes that reduce nitrogen and phosphorus levels by 70–80%, significantly improving the quality of the treated water and contributing to the protection of the s’Albufera de Mallorca Natural Park. The project also included a new 976 m³ storm tank, improvements in sludge management, landscape integration, the creation of an artificial wetland, and enhanced odour control.

This performance, carried out in a joint venture with Melchor Mascaró, has been promoted by the Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA) and led by the Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, consolidating a more efficient, resilient infrastructure model aligned with the territory's sustainability objectives.
