We innovate to treat sludge more efficiently and sustainably.
Pioneering two-stage anaerobic digestion technology at Alcoy Wastewater Treatment Plant
Working with the Public Entity for Wastewater Treatment of the Valencian Community (EPSAR), we have developed a pioneering technology in Spain to optimise sludge treatment at Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), improving their efficiency and sustainability. Thanks to an innovative two-phase thermophilic anaerobic digestion system, we have achieved a 25.5 %reduction in sludge production and a 20 % increase in biogas generation, reinforcing our commitment to the circular economy and energy self-sufficiency. Furthermore, this process reduces the microbiological load of the sludge by 90 % , opening up the possibility of its hygienisation. This advance, implemented at the Alcoy WWTP, is the result of research in the SLUDGE4ENERGY and LIFE STO3RE projects, reaffirming our commitment to innovation and sustainability in water management.
