The debate on the future challenges posed by the management of the integrated water cycle, which, together with FACSA and the Levante-EMV newspaper, brought together a large audience last week at the facilities of the Bancaixa Cultural Center in Valencia, served to publicize some of the main initiatives that companies, researchers and institutions plan to promote in the coming months in this area.
Specifically, the experts who participated in the event, which was opened by the President of the Valencian Government, Ximo Puig, and moderated by the director of the Levante-EMV newspaper, Julio Monreal, announced the launch, starting next autumn, of the first Water Observatory. This pioneering initiative will include a specific working group on the urban water cycle and another on drought.
During the session, Enrique Gimeno, president of FACSA; Gonzalo Delacámara, academic director of the Water Economy Forum and coordinator of the Water Economy Group at the IMDEA Water Institute; José Claramonte, general director of FACSA; Francisco Quesada, regional secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change; and Rubén Alfaro, president of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, presented a diagnosis of the current water management in our territory from different perspectives. They also addressed, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the main problems, challenges, and threats facing the sector, as well as their possible solutions.
The session, which was also attended by the president of the Valencian Parliament, Enric Morera; the director general of Water, Manuel Aldeguer; the regional secretary for Economic Model, María José Mira; the second vice president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Toni Gaspar; the president of the Federation of Irrigation Communities (Fecoreva), José Antonio Andújar; and the councilor for the Integrated Water Cycle of the Valencia City Council, Vicent Sarrià, among others, also served to analyze the need to promote greater awareness of water conservation, the implementation of new projects for the reuse of reclaimed water, the implementation of improvements in municipal networks, and the modernization of irrigation systems.
