Peñíscola and FACSA renew the water reservoir in the old town of the city

Visit to the improvements at the Facsa depot in the old town of Peñíscola

The Peñíscola City Council and FACSA, as part of their commitment to continuous improvement and quality in the provision of services to citizens, have carried out different works in recent weeks to waterproof and renew the water tank located next to the Papa Luna Castle.

The 800 m³ capacity facility is located in the town's old quarter, next to the Church of Our Lady of the Hermitage. The reservoir draws its water from the Font de Dins spring and then distributes it throughout the walled enclosure.

The works, budgeted at approximately €80,000, involved the rehabilitation and conditioning of the reservoir's two basins to prevent leaks. The project also included the replacement of all inlet and outlet pipes to ensure an adequate water supply for the community.

“With these works, in addition to renewing and modernizing the supply facilities that we manage in the town, we are improving the quality of the supply to the population that resides in this area of the urban center,” explained the representatives of FACSA.

For his part, the mayor of Peñíscola, Andrés Martínez, who visited the renovated reservoir along with technicians from the company that manages the water supply in the town, highlighted "the historical importance of the water channeling system in this historic environment, which has relied on the Font de Dins spring as a fundamental resource for the socio-economic development of the city for centuries.".

The improvement made to the reservoir and water distribution structures in this unique population center adds to the various improvements undertaken by the council in terms of mobility and accessibility, "since it is a space of great value and highly frequented, especially during the tourist season, in which the walled city requires infrastructures capable of supplying and covering with guarantees the high demand of the hotel and accommodation establishments," the mayor highlighted.
