The Nules City Council and Facsa have completed the digitization of the integrated water cycle in the municipality, an action that will improve the control of the supply and sanitation network, strengthen the monitoring of water quality and detect possible incidents earlier.
The project addresses the need for more efficient water resource management in a context marked by drought and periods of intense rainfall. This initiative will have a direct impact on residents, as it will help the local council strengthen its monitoring of an essential service, anticipate potential problems, and make informed decisions based on up-to-date data to further improve water management in the municipality.
The Councilor for Integrated Water Cycle Management in Nules, Adrián Sorribes, stated that this project “represents an important step in continuing to modernize Nules and improve a basic service for our residents.” In this regard, he emphasized that “having more data about the network allows us to act more quickly, anticipate potential problems, and use water more efficiently.”.
To mark the completion of the works, the Nules City Council and Facsa held a follow-up meeting to review the scope of the work carried out and analyze the next steps in improving the service. Participants included Councilor Adrián Sorribes; Raquel Ginés, head of the service in Nules and Deputy Director of Customer Management and Continuous Improvement at Facsa; Ignacio Aparici, Deputy Director of Water Supply Operations at Facsa; and Desiderio Román, a technician with Facsa's Nules service.
The work was carried out between August 2025 and May 2026. During this period, new measurement and control equipment was installed at different points of the municipal network to better understand its operation.
The work carried out includes the installation of meters to monitor water quality in the network and reservoirs, as well as sensors that allow for monitoring flow rates, pressure, and the performance of the infrastructure. Equipment has also been incorporated into the sewage system to detect potential overflow events, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
The project is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Facility. Specifically, the initiative has received €349,571.76 in funding under the program dedicated to the digitalization of the urban water cycle in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants in the Valencian Community.
With this action, Nules is moving towards a more controlled, modern water network, better prepared to meet current challenges. Digitalization will allow the city council to improve daily monitoring of the service and continue advancing towards more efficient, preventative, and sustainable management of the entire water cycle.
