Adapting water infrastructure to an increasingly demanding climate has become a priority for municipalities. In this context, l'Alcora has taken a firm step towards modernizing its integrated water cycle with the awarding of the contract for the digitalization of the municipal system, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of the service.
The works, framed within the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for the digitization of the water cycle promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Livestock and Fisheries, have been awarded to Facsa for an amount of 263,280.52 euros (VAT included).
Specifically, the project includes the installation of continuous water quality monitoring points, pressure sensors in various sections of the water supply network, and level sensors at water intakes. Network analyzers will also be incorporated to monitor the energy consumption of the municipal water supply system. In the area of sanitation, limnimeters will be installed to quantify discharges into the sewer network, which will improve understanding of the system's operation, anticipate potential problems, and optimize decision-making.
Thanks to these actions, the City Council will have real-time information on the state of the infrastructure, facilitating more preventive and efficient management, as well as a greater capacity to respond to incidents and situations of water stress.
A model of continuous improvement
This action is part of a continuous improvement strategy that the City Council has been promoting in collaboration with Facsa in recent years. In the area of digitalization, the municipality already has remote meter reading systems installed—mainly in industrial areas—a measure aligned with the significant business sector of l'Alcora and aimed at optimizing consumption monitoring.
Likewise, the council maintains a constant line of renewal of the supply network, integrating the updating of pipes in the urban improvement actions that are carried out in the municipality and progressively replacing old sections to reinforce the efficiency and durability of the system.
