Systems and processes for improving water management in Spain, or the application of innovative techniques in desalination and reuse of this resource, are some of the issues that have been addressed this week at the XII International Congress of the Spanish Association of Desalination and Reuse (AEDyR), which has taken place in Toledo.

A leading international forum in this field, where FACSA and SITRA participated by delivering presentations and posters on their latest research in urban and industrial water management. Specifically, the Grupo Gimeno companies focused on showcasing their latest technological advancements in water treatment, water reuse, process simulation, and IoT.

On behalf of FACSA, Isabel Tormos, the company's R&D technician, presented to the attendees the most relevant data on the MAGNOX project, whose objective is the development of a new photocatalytic process that allows the decontamination of water by eliminating persistent contaminants and disinfecting it.

Along the same lines, Javier Climent, R&D&I technician at FACSA, presented the work carried out by the company on the optimization of the operation of a UV disinfection channel in a wastewater treatment plant through the use of computational fluid simulation tools.

Manuel Ortiz, a member of the Water Treatment Department of the Supply Area of FACSA, for his part, has been in charge of presenting the “Cerro de los Palos pilot plant” designed and built with the objective of optimizing the potabilization of surface water using fouling-resistant membranes.

Finally, Javier García, head of the water purification department at FACSA, was responsible for the poster presentation on electrodenitrification applied to the treatment of reject water from reverse osmosis processes.

On behalf of SITRA, Cristina Ferrer, head of the SITRA Operation and Maintenance Department, presented the EOLUTION project. This initiative, based on the simultaneous combination of electro-oxidation (EO) and ozone (O3) technologies, has enabled the development and validation of a sustainable and low-cost water treatment and disinfection tool.

In addition, the company has presented a poster about WIM, SITRA's innovative software for control, data acquisition and online administration that allows the user of an industrial water treatment plant (WWTP) to perform real-time management from any internet-connected device.

The congress, held at the El Greco Conference Center in Toledo, brought together experts in desalination, reuse and water treatment from companies, public administrations, universities and research centers, who analyzed the challenges of this sector in Spain.

These conferences, sponsored by entities such as FACSA, have the collaboration of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Ministry of Industry, ICEX, the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, the Water Agency of that region, the Toledo City Council and the International Desalination Association (IDA).
