L'Alcora now controls its urban water cycle in real time

The l'Alcora City Council and Facsa have completed the digitization of the urban water cycle in the municipality, an action that will allow real-time monitoring of the status of hydraulic infrastructure and improve the daily management of the service.

The implementation of these technological solutions will bring direct benefits to the municipality by facilitating more precise control of the water supply and sanitation network, anticipating potential incidents, reducing response times to breakdowns, improving water efficiency, and optimizing the energy consumption of the facilities. All of this will contribute to providing a more sustainable service better suited to the current needs of l'Alcora.

The mayor of l'Alcora, Samuel Falomir, visited the works together with the director of the Supply area of Facsa, Pascual Maximino; the deputy director of Supply Operations, Ignacio Aparici; and the head of the service in l'Alcora, Manuel Ortiz, to learn firsthand about the technological solutions implemented in the municipal network.

During the visit, Falomir emphasized that “this project represents a significant step forward for l'Alcora, as it provides us with more information about an essential infrastructure for the daily life of the municipality.” In this regard, he stressed that “having a more controlled and monitored network helps us to be more efficient, anticipate potential incidents, and continue improving the service we provide to the public.”.

The project, completed in just over three months, included the installation of continuous water quality monitoring points, pressure sensors in various sections of the supply network, and level sensors at water intakes. These systems will provide up-to-date information on key service parameters, facilitating faster and more accurate decision-making.

In addition, network analyzers have been installed to monitor the energy consumption of the facilities, and water level gauges have been added to the sewer network. These will improve our understanding of the sanitation system and the quantification of discharges. This information will be especially useful for planning future improvements, prioritizing investments, and strengthening the municipal service's response capacity.

The project, awarded to Facsa for €263,280.52 (VAT included), falls under the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for the digitalization of the water cycle, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Livestock and Fisheries. Furthermore, the execution of the work has incorporated sustainability criteria, prioritizing the use of zero-emission vehicles in the tasks carried out on-site.

Continuous service improvement

This action is part of the ongoing improvement strategy that the l'Alcora Town Council has been promoting in collaboration with Facsa to strengthen the efficiency and reliability of its water infrastructure. In recent years, the municipality has already made progress in implementing remote meter reading systems, mainly in industrial areas, and maintains a steady stream of renewal of the water supply network through the progressive replacement of old pipes in various urban improvement projects.

Furthermore, l'Alcora maintains a consistent program of water supply network renewal through the progressive replacement of old pipes as part of various urban improvement projects. The combination of these interventions with new real-time monitoring will allow the municipality to move towards more proactive and efficient water management, better prepared to face challenges such as drought, aging infrastructure, and increased demand at certain points in the network.
