Castellón, November 30, 2017 – As part of its commitment to innovation applied to environmental protection, scientific dissemination, and knowledge sharing, Gimeno Servicios concluded its participation in the international trade fairs Efiaqua and Ecofira with a technical session at the Ecoforum. This program of activities, conferences, and technical talks, led by the Valencian Regional Government's Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change, and Rural Development, in collaboration with Feria Valencia, allowed companies in the sector to showcase their main initiatives in the fight against global warming.

On one hand, the CEO of FOBESA and FOVASA, Juan Pablo Mateo presented the practical case study carried out in the Alicante town of Sax to achieve zero waste in the local management of green areas. He was joined by the town's Environment Councillor, Javier Martínez, who explained the initiative that allows the reuse of pruning waste generated in gardens and green areas to enrich the soil.

Thus, Martínez has advocated for “Working towards a circular economy that allows waste to be turned into resources” He emphasized that "the partnership between politicians, technicians, companies and citizens is essential, so that all areas are involved in this social and management change.".

In this regard, Juan Pablo Mateo highlighted that “this joint work between the administration and companies is based on a sustainable approach, promotes the circular economy of resources, adapts to the economic viability of the population and is extrapolatable to other municipalities.”.

On the other hand, in the second part of the session, José Guillermo Berlanga, Director of R&D&I at FACSA, addressed new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) concepts related to the development of projects that allow for the utilization of sludge generated during the purification process to maximize biogas production and obtain new value-added products, such as bioplastics. In this regard, he presented some of the initiatives that the company is already implementing in this area, both within and outside of Spain, such as LIFE STO3RE, PHARMPLAS, and MICROALBAC.

“The production of bioproducts is a trend that is being worked on at the laboratory scale, so we have to see how it will evolve,” said Berlanga, who added that “the more projects there are, the more results we will have and this will allow us to know if they are viable to then reach the markets.”.

During this week, FACSA, SITRA, FOBESA, and FOVASA have showcased their main advances, projects, and solutions in water and environmental management at Efiaqua and Ecofira, in addition to sharing synergies with leading firms linked to water resources and the environment.

The four companies, with Valencian capital, are part of the oldest area of Gimeno Servicios, which for more than 140 years has worked constantly in the promotion of research, innovation and technological advancement, applied to its management models.
