The new 5,000 cubic meter reservoir will be located on the same site after the current one is demolished.
FACSA, the company that holds the concession for the drinking water supply and sewage services in Almassora, will replace the water reservoir built in 1932, located just meters from the train station, with one that will triple its capacity. In addition to increasing the volume, the town will improve services for residents by guaranteeing future supply during peak consumption times.
The new reservoir will be located on the same site as the current one, known as the main reservoir 1 or Pueblo reservoir, which requires renovation after 88 years of service. The project planned for this year will significantly increase capacity, from the current storage volume of 1,700 cubic meters to 5,000 cubic meters.
The Almassora City Council's governing board will approve this Monday the project for the new water storage infrastructure presented by the company FACSA and included in the Master Plan that outlines the contract between the two entities. In addition to this project, within the framework of the 2020 Infrastructure Renewal Project, the company and the municipal technical services will prioritize other interventions in the network to improve service to residents.
This new storage system will receive water from wells 1 (local), 2, and 3 (located almost a kilometer away), and in turn, this reservoir will fill the Relief reservoir via a motorized valve. Together, they will have a capacity of 7,000 cubic meters and will eliminate the water losses currently caused by cracks and fissures in the existing reservoir due to its age.
Furthermore, as the entity points out, it is necessary to increase the drinking water storage capacity in Almassora to guarantee supply during peak hours. Regarding the supply to the beach area, the district currently receives water from the delivery point in Castelló. However, with this new reservoir, which significantly increases its capacity, the town would avoid depending on the neighboring municipality should the new pipeline to the beach be built in the future.
Materials renewal
The improvements announced for this year are in addition to the €190,660 invested in 2019 to progressively replace asbestos cement pipes with more durable and sustainable materials, thus improving service. One of the most recent projects affected the area around the Embajador Beltrán school, where the water authority detected a section of pipeline that was overloaded during peak demand, causing pipe breaks.
