Facsa participated in the tenth edition of the Sludge Management and Treatment Conference aimed at managers, administration staff, plant managers, engineering firms and researchers, whose objective is to offer a framework to share advances in the wide range of sludge solutions and treatment.
Within this framework, Raquel Tamarit, Research and Development Technician at Facsa, gave a presentation focused on the BIOFERES project. Tamarit explained that thanks to this initiative, a novel biorefinery concept has been developed that will allow the wastewater management model to be brought closer to the principles of sustainability and the circular economy.
“We have combined different technologies, such as two-phase temperature anaerobic digestion, membrane technologies like ultrafiltration and membrane contactors, and solid-state fermentation reactors, to obtain different streams and products with high value for agriculture: liquid biofertilizers with high nutrient content and solid biostimulants to promote crop growth,” Tamarit explained during his presentation. He also indicated that this project, coordinated by Facsa and with the participation of Biovic and Inderen, has been funded by the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI).
This conference is organized biennially by the Environmental Biotechnology group of the University of Barcelona.
