Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, offering ever-increasing advantages and innovative uses to help us move towards a more sustainable and resilient world. These advancements and the latest developments in the sector were the focus of the annual conference of ESRI-Spain, a leading GIS software manufacturer, held in Madrid, with the participation of... Facsa.
The event, which took place on October 4 and 5 at IFEMA, was attended by nearly 2,000 people from all national sectors where geospatial analytics provides a differentiating value.
The Information Technology and Operating Systems (TIYSO) department played a key role in the water cycle sector track, with a presentation by the company's GIS project manager, Joan Avariento, and a panel discussion featuring TIYSO manager Jorge Fuentes. They shared the table with representatives from Aguas de Barcelona, the Pamplona Metropolitan Area Authority, and the company Tracasa, as well as over one hundred attendees from companies in the sector.
In his presentation 'Facsa and its road map towards a digital twin based on the Esri and Utility Network platform', he highlighted the strategic commitment of Facsa through geospatial analytics, showcasing the framework of solutions built by the company that provide operational improvement in processes and decision-making, through the integration of the geospatial component into data and business processes.
For her part, Fuentes participated in a panel discussion addressing the causes and effects of climate change. She shared how Facsa contributes to mitigating these effects through its commitment to renewable energy, cogeneration for self-consumption, the application of AI to optimize electricity consumption in various processes related to both water supply and wastewater treatment, and the application of IoT and AI to optimize demand management and reduce non-remitting water losses (NRW). She also highlighted Facsa's commitment to raising public awareness about the responsible use of water through ongoing outreach campaigns such as #ConnectToWater and #TheCourseOfWater.
