To coincide with World Water Day, FACSA, together with the Castellón City Council, presented today the details of its Annual Report on the Drinking Water Supply Service in the city of Castellón. This service, which the Grupo Gimeno company has managed since its founding in 1873, is responsible for the collection, transport, treatment, distribution, quality control, and management of this resource. The company supplies a population of over 170,000 people daily, providing them with 15,553,026 cubic meters of water annually.
To this end, FACSA, the company that holds the concession for the municipal service of the Castellón City Council, manages 20 groundwater collection points and has six reservoirs from which the water reaches homes through a distribution network of more than 650,000 meters in length, also made up of more than 25,000 connections, 19 treatment points and 24 quality control points that guarantee at all times its suitability for consumption, complying with all the parameters required by health regulations.
A pioneer in implementing the latest water treatment technologies, Gimeno Servicios operates a Telecontrol Center that monitors and manages its various water supply facilities in real time. FACSA also uses leak detection equipment to actively search for potential leaks and, in collaboration with the Castellón City Council, has launched a pioneering remote meter reading project that has enabled more than 2,500 users to optimize their consumption and manage their accounts electronically.
Sustainability
In this regard, the company encourages responsible and sustainable water consumption by establishing progressive tariffs. This tariff is 351% lower than the average rate paid in the country's main provincial capitals.
Furthermore, as part of its commitment to environmental protection, FACSA manages a separate irrigation network in Castellón, consisting of 10,000 meters of pipes that allow the use of reclaimed or lower-quality water for irrigation. In addition, new electric vehicles have been added to the water supply fleet.
In turn, the company has also made available to the public 7 osmosis plants distributed throughout the city center – Maestro Falla, Cataluña, Alcalde Tárrega and Amalio Gimeno streets, Plaza Pintor Porcar (Grao), Universitat Jaume I area and Marjaleria – which supply more than 40,000 liters of treated water per day free of charge.
And, in terms of social commitment, more than 500 families in situations of special need have benefited from the aid provided by the social emergency program, developed jointly with the Castellón City Council.
“Our commitment to quality service, innovation, research and respect for our environment has made it possible for us to currently be present in nine autonomous communities, where we serve more than one million people every day,” said Manuel Breva, Director of the Drinking Water Service at FACSA.
For his part, the Councillor for Public Services, Rafael Simó, explained that “on a day like today, when we commemorate World Water Day, and in an environment like this, I think it is a good time to highlight this service which, in addition to promoting the rational use of water, stands out for the implementation of social responsibility and innovation projects, without this implying an increase in cost for citizens.”.
