Developing and validating a low-cost ceramic membrane bioreactor using agro-industrial waste for wastewater treatment. This is the main objective of REMEB, the project led by FACSA, which the company presented at the "Ceramics for the Future Conference" organized by the Spanish Association of Ceramic Technicians (ATC) and the Ceramic Quality Club.

During the presentation - which took place today at the Hotel Castellón Center - Elena Zuriaga, R&D Technician at FACSA, explained to the attendees the main conclusions of the project, which recently ended with the successful validation of its sustainable wastewater treatment system using low-cost ceramic membranes.

This will reduce the volume of waste in landfills, promoting the circular economy, as well as the price of this technology, thanks to the innovative manufacturing system of the ceramic membranes, based on waste from various agro-industrial processes, which has been carried out by the tile manufacturer Natucer from Onda.

The project, funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, has involved other Spanish entities such as the University Institute of Ceramic Technology ITC-UJI, the environmental laboratory IPROMA, the Sanitation Entity of the Region of Murcia ESAMUR and the Council of Chambers of Commerce of the Valencian Community.
