Facsa presents at SMAGUA an innovative project to produce biofertilizers and biostimulants from wastewater treatment plant sludge

These days the International Water and Environment Exhibition (SMAGUA) is taking place with the aim of covering vital issues such as energy generation, waste and hazardous substance management, and environmental pollution.
Within the framework of this event, ATEGRUS, Technical Association for Waste Management and Environment, has organized a technical conference on the management of sewage sludge and its energy valorization in which Rubén García Tirado, R&D project technician of Facsa, has given a presentation focused on the BIOFERES project.
García explained that this project proposes a new process for advanced nutrient recovery and the transformation of wastewater treatment plant sludge into high-value-added products. “To this end, it combines different technologies such as two-phase temperature anaerobic digestion, membrane technologies like ultrafiltration and membrane contactors, and solid-state fermentation reactors to obtain different streams and products with high value for agriculture: liquid biofertilizers with high nutrient content and solid biostimulants to promote crop growth,” he elaborated.
He also indicated that this project, coordinated by Facsa and in which Biovic and Inderen also participate, has been financed by the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI).
SMAGUA has become one of the most important platforms on the international scene and has brought the industry together, offering innovative solutions that will serve as a reference for the future.
