This week in Santiago de Compostela, Facsa, in a meeting with La Voz de Galicia, promoted the challenges of adapting water management to an increasingly complex climate context, marked by prolonged droughts, torrential rains, floods and more frequent heat waves.
During the event, the company presented its second Facsa Study on extreme weather events, a report that highlights the need to anticipate risks, strengthen planning, and move towards more preventative, efficient, and resilient management. Jorge Morales, Facsa's Business Development Director, presented the study's main conclusions, emphasizing that acting only after an emergency is becoming increasingly costly from an economic, social, and environmental perspective.
The debate continued with a round table discussion in which Luis Basiero, director of the Sanitation and Purification area of Facsa, participated, along with Roi Fernández, director of Augas de Galicia; José Antonio Quiroga, president of the Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation; and Blas García, mayor of Ames and member of the executive committee of Fegamp.
During his speech, Basiero emphasized the crucial role of sanitation and wastewater treatment in the face of extreme weather events associated with climate change. He also highlighted the importance of leveraging digitalization, risk analysis, and technical tools such as CFD studies to identify critical facilities, improve decision-making, and strengthen the responsiveness of water infrastructure.
The meeting was opened by the mayor of Santiago de Compostela, Goretti Sanmartín, and closed by the Minister of the Environment, Ángeles Vázquez. The event was also attended by clients such as Foz and Ribeira, as well as representatives from institutions, government agencies, and professionals connected to the water sector.
