FACSA continues its national expansion plan. This time, Aguas de las Cuencas de España (ACUAES) has awarded the company the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the Cantabria water management system for two years, with possible extensions, for an annual billing amount of €774,882.
The contract has a dual purpose. Firstly, to guarantee the water supply during the summer months to various districts of Cantabria, primarily the municipalities of Santander and Torrelavega, which experience significant shortages in their supply systems during periods of low water, when the highest demand coincides with the lowest availability. Secondly, to reduce the current overexploitation of the Pas and Besaya rivers during the summer months, in order to safeguard fish populations in these waterways, ensuring the environmentally necessary flow for maintaining the characteristic ecological processes in an area designated as a Site of Community Importance (SCI).
In short, the project involves regulating the Besaya basin by storing water during the rainiest period and making it available for use during periods of peak demand. This will all be achieved using a reservoir, the Ebro Reservoir.
The work to be carried out by FACSA, for which the company will have a team of 14 people, consists of:
- Operation of the equipment and facilities built – to deliver water from the Ebro Reservoir to the regional supply systems and to store in said reservoir the surplus resources of the Cantabrian basins.
- Maintenance and conservation of equipment and facilities, both electromechanical, as well as civil works and their complementary services, so that they are, at all times, ready to fulfill their function.
- Control and monitoring of the general, technical, economic, and administrative aspects of the supply system, both in relation to the operation of the system and in relation to its maintenance and conservation.
With this new award, FACSA consolidates its growth in the northern part of Spain, where it already operates in Asturias, Galicia, Navarra and Castilla y León.
