FACSA strengthens its presence in the Balearic Islands. The Gimeno Servicios company, in collaboration with La Caixa Foundation, Jaume I University of Castellón, and the University of the Balearic Islands, has organized a conference in Palma de Mallorca where, with the help of various experts, it will analyze the problems related to the proliferation of algae in coastal waters.
The session will be held on May 24 at the Caixaforum facilities and, among other aspects, will address both the ecological state of coastal waters in the Balearic archipelago and the socio-economic effects of algal blooms in tourist towns.
Among other advances, the conference will showcase the latest hydrodynamic modeling tools implemented to optimize strategies for mitigating the proliferation of these types of algae in specific areas. It will also analyze the impact of harmful algal blooms (HABs) on aquaculture along the coasts of Catalonia and the Valencian Community, their monitoring, prevention, and control in reservoirs, as well as specific cases of HABs in areas such as Alicante Bay and the Mar Menor lagoon in Murcia.
Currently, harmful algal blooms (HABs) are considered one of the main risks facing coastal communities worldwide, due to their potential consequences for marine ecosystems, food security, fishing, and agriculture.
Through this event, FACSA aims to promote the exchange of knowledge about this issue and serve as a meeting point between leading experts in this field, companies and the general public, in order to provide the broadest possible view of the current situation of this problem, its causes, consequences and possible solutions.
