Facsa brings 'The Course of Water' to classrooms in Extremadura to promote the responsible use of this resource

The MásMedio Consortium of the Cáceres Provincial Council has completed the first edition of 'The Water Course', the educational initiative of Facsa that brings the culture of water to the classrooms so that new generations can better understand the integral water cycle and the importance of making responsible use of this resource.

During this academic year, the activity has reached almost 90 primary school students from different municipalities in the province of Cáceres. Specifically, the sessions have taken place at the Fray Alonso Fernández and Las Eras primary schools in Malpartida de Plasencia; the Batalla de Pavía primary school in Torrejoncillo; the San José de Calasanz primary school in Riolobos; and the Virgen de la Jarrera primary school in Mirabel.

Through 'The Water Cycle', students have been able to learn, in an age-appropriate and engaging way, how the water cycle works, from collection and treatment to distribution and subsequent purification. Furthermore, the sessions have reinforced key messages related to water conservation, environmental stewardship, sanitation, and the importance of protecting a resource essential for life and the development of communities.

In Extremadura, the joint venture Facsa – Blázquez Martín Obras Civiles is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plants in Malpartida de Plasencia, Mirabel, Riolobos, Pajares de la Rivera, Torrejoncillo, Carcaboso, and Valdencín, as well as their associated pumping stations. These infrastructures serve more than 9,600 inhabitants and are essential for ensuring proper management of urban wastewater and environmental protection.

With this activity, the Consortium reinforces its commitment to environmental education and outreach, fostering greater awareness of the responsible use of water from an early age. This work is especially relevant in a context marked by the effects of climate change, periods of drought, and the need to move towards increasingly efficient and sustainable water resource management.
