In this way, the scholarships, endowed with a total budget of €22,042, aim to support university students from Castelló de la Plana who, due to their economic situation, may have difficulties in coping with current university fees.
The call for applications received 57 submissions, of which 24 were ultimately accepted: 10 first-year undergraduate students and 14 second-year students and beyond. Eight are from the Faculty of Law and Economics, eight from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, five from the Faculty of Health Sciences, and three from the Higher School of Technology and Experimental Sciences.
The award ceremony was attended by the mayor of Castelló, Amparo Marco; the rector of the UJI, Eva Alcón; the president of FACSA, Enrique Gimeno; the vice-rector of Students and Social Commitment, Inmaculada Rodríguez; the manager of the General Foundation, Juan Antonio Bertolín; and the head of the Drinking Water service of FACSA, Manuel Breva, who presented the check and congratulated each of the scholarship recipients and their families.
The president of FACSA, Enrique Gimeno, highlighted the company's firm commitment to collaborating in the promotion of knowledge and education as a guarantee of progress and improvement of social well-being, and encouraged university students to "be persistent in their efforts and on the path to excellence.".
For her part, the Rector of Universitat Jaume I, Eva Alcón, thanked the company FACSA and its president, Enrique Gimeno, “for their commitment to Castelló and its people, and, above all, to the public education that Universitat Jaume I represents.” “Together we are moving towards equity and true equality of opportunity, but there is still much to be done. This year, 46 applications were accepted for this scholarship program, of which 24 people were awarded scholarships, but 22 others were not. This means that we must continue along this path, seeking the collaboration of more companies and society as a whole, to truly make Universitat Jaume I a public university, a university for all the people of Castelló.”.
Finally, the mayor of Castelló, Amparo Marco, praised the involvement of the private sector in promoting talent through these scholarships and stated that "it is important that both public institutions and companies support those students who strive to achieve academic success, as they are the ones who will work to build a better society.".
