The mayor of Castellón, Amparo Marco, and the councilor for Territorial Planning, Rafa Simó, presented yesterday the protocol of actions for rain 2018-2019, which aims to establish the prevention measures and procedures of action of the teams and systems of evacuation of runoff water in case of torrential rains or cold drop.

These operations will be carried out by FACSA—the company currently providing the service—using three all-terrain vehicles, two light commercial vehicles, auxiliary and dewatering pumps of varying power and flow rates, portable generators, and seven sewer cleaning trucks. FACSA will also utilize seven Archimedes screw pump stations and twelve pumping stations with a daily evacuation capacity of over 2.5 million cubic meters for the implementation of the Protocol.

In addition, the mayor has checked the proper functioning of the remote control and telemanagement system at the main pumping stations and Archimedes screws, as well as the video surveillance cameras for continuous monitoring of problem areas during rain events.

The Councilor for Infrastructure explained that the protocol is activated by rainfall of 10 liters per square meter, as recorded by Castellón's rain gauge system. It includes 26 defined actions and controls, which increase to 35 if rainfall exceeds 30 liters per square meter. Notifications can be made by staff from this service, official agencies, FACSA (the Castellón water company), or by the public.
