Facsa and Sitra mobilize more than 130 volunteers in Castelló and Sant Antoni de Portmany to care for their beaches

Facsa and Sitra held another edition of their Beach Cleaning Day this Sunday in Castelló and Sant Antoni de Portmany., A volunteering and environmental awareness initiative that this year has brought together more than 130 people around the same goal: to contribute to the care and conservation of the coastline.

The event is part of the corporate social responsibility initiatives through which Facsa and Sitra seek to extend their commitment to sustainability beyond their own operations, involving their teams and the community in caring for the areas where they operate. This approach to their relationship with the environment aims to generate a positive impact and promote greater environmental awareness, also through participation and volunteering.

Held as part of World Beach Cleanup Day, commemorated on September 19, the activity took place simultaneously at Playa del Pinar del Grau de Castelló and Cala Gració, in Sant Antoni de Portmany.

During the morning, participants explored both areas to locate, collect, and classify the waste found on the sand and in the surrounding environment. This activity resulted in the removal of approximately 307 kg of waste, primarily microplastics, fishing gear, and cigarette butts. It also provided valuable insights into what types of waste reach the beaches, where they might originate, and what we can do to prevent it from ending up in the natural environment.

In Castelló, the event was organized in collaboration with the Castelló City Council and with the participation of Itinerantur, which led the activities and provided an environmental awareness talk for attendees. Also present were Gonzalo Romero, Councilor for the Environment, and Ester Giner, Deputy Mayor of Grau de Castelló, who accompanied the volunteers throughout the morning at Playa del Pinar.

In Sant Antoni de Portmany, the event was jointly organized by Facsa and the Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council, with the collaboration of the UTE Portmany Municipal Cleaning Service and the participation of institutional representatives such as Marcos Serra, the city's mayor; Pepita Torres, the councilor for the Environment; and three children's football teams from the municipality: Sociedad Deportiva Portmany, Fútbol Club Luchador, and Club de Fútbol Sant Rafel.,

They have been joined by the Voluntaris d'Eivissa Association, the Pomelo Playa restaurant, Volunteers from the TRS hotel are reinforcing the collective nature of a day that each year seeks to involve new groups and entities from the surrounding area.

In this case, the talk was given by the UTE Portmany Municipal Cleaning Service and the Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council, bringing to the participants the importance of preventing the generation of waste and avoiding it ending up on beaches and marine ecosystems.
