This weekend saw the fifth edition of Hackathon Castellón. This gathering of programmers, promoted by IoTsens – as a member of the Castelló Association of Technology Companies, Xarxatec – and sponsored by FACSA, focused this year on sustainability and the circular economy.
For this edition, three major challenges have been devised, focused on the design of an assistance system for the detection of illegal dumping, the creation of a measurement platform that allows building a healthier and more sustainable city, and the design and implementation of an Open Data platform useful for Administrations and citizens, respectively.
To support participants, collaborating companies held Tech Corners, sharing technical knowledge via YouTube livestreams to help them tackle the challenges. Kelvin José Villareal of IoTsens focused his presentation on the Cassandra database, while Joan Pere Avariento, a technician from FACSA, discussed geolocation as a solution and added value for developers.
In addition, Manolo Gasch, José Manuel Llorens and Jose Luis Martínez, hardware and software technicians from IoTsens, have tutored the participants of the third Open Data challenge throughout the days.
Finally, the winning project was Scooter Safe, a platform to improve sustainable mobility in the city that offers a solution to the parking of electric scooters.
The jury was composed of Ignacio Llopis, managing director of IoTsens; Sergio Aguado, CTO of Cuatroochenta; Alexis Nadal, CEO of Nayar Systems; José Bort, CEO of Eventscase; Luis Gargori, municipal technician of the Castelló City Council; Juan Darocha, Castelló delegate of the College of Computer Engineering; Gloria Serra, president of Networking Directivas; and Ricardo Borillo, analyst-programmer of the Universitat Jaume I.
