The waste management model of EMASESA at the Copero WWTP represents the most significant example of environmental sustainability developed in a WWTP with anaerobic digestion

The headquarters of EMASESA, the Seville Metropolitan Water Supply and Sanitation Company, hosted the conference “Co-digestion as an Example of the Circular Economy” this week. This forum of experts brought together companies such as FACSA to share their experience in this field and discuss the future potential and significant environmental benefits of co-digestion.

The purpose of the day was to define and present as an example of environmental sustainability the waste management model of EMASESA - specifically those that can be recovered for energy (co-substrates) - in the Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) with anaerobic digestion, the most significant example in Seville being the Copero WWTP.

In this context, Javier Peña, head of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Copero, explained to the attendees the implications of co-substrate management in the operation of the WWTP in the town, currently managed by FACSA.

The day, which concluded with a visit to the wastewater treatment plant facilities, was attended by industry experts, including wastewater treatment plant managers and operators, as well as prominent figures from the political and business worlds, such as José Fiscal, Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Regional Government of Andalusia; Carmen Castreño, First Deputy Mayor of Seville; and Jaime Palop Piqueras, CEO of Emasesa. Representing FACSA were José Claramonte, the company's General Manager; Luis Basiero, Director of FACSA's Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment Division; and David Miguel, Area Manager for the Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment Division.
