FACSA and Almassora begin the preventive treatment campaign against rats and insects

Almassora treatments

The company Facsa and the Almassora City Council began treatment this week against rat and cockroach infestations in the town center, industrial area, and beach. The Councilor for Public Services, Joan Antoni Trenco, and the company's area supply manager, Rafael Lahuerta, oversaw the start of the campaign to prevent the problem.

This is a comprehensive culling operation carried out by several company teams to disrupt the reproductive and growth cycle of these animals. Proliferation in both cases increases under optimal conditions of heat and humidity, so in the colder months the adult population is low and shows little activity, but in the warmer months there is an increase and greater activity.

For this reason, specialized teams are opening the sewer manholes and distributing a product that works by contact and inhalation to break the life cycle and growth of the pests. Pont de Salvà Street was one of the first streets in the town center to be inspected, while other teams went to the industrial area, where treatments will continue in the coming days.

Similarly, the company has recommended that Almassora residents use household products inside buildings and on private water connections, advice included in leaflets that Facsa has distributed in various municipal buildings for residents to consult. "As the company explains in the information leaflets, the best way to prevent their proliferation is for everyone to work together in the fight against rats and cockroaches," the councilor stated.

In the case of cockroaches, Facsa recommends keeping homes clean and storing food in sealed containers, as well as removing leftover food and repairing leaky faucets to prevent water from spilling. To prevent these pests, it is also helpful to seal cracks with plaster and repair sewer drains and plug gaps in manholes or joints.

For rat prevention, Facsa explains that it is advisable to avoid accumulating waste, not leave water or food within their reach, block access to places they might use as nests or hiding places, and cut branches they could use to climb to higher areas. The use of rodenticides must be done with proper protective equipment.

Trenco reminded residents that Facsa carries out preventative and corrective treatments throughout the year to keep the pest population under control. For indoor and private connections, those affected should contact specialized companies or treat small outbreaks with household products at their own risk.
