Castellón is expanding its network of public drinking fountains with chilled and filtered water, adding five new locations throughout the city. The aim is to help combat high temperatures by providing residents with access to clean water and reducing plastic consumption. The new locations are: the Planetarium, Plaza Fadrell, Paseo Buenavista, Plaza del Mercadillo (next to the City Hall), and Avenida Capuchinos.
With this project, the Castellón City Council, in collaboration with Facsa, reinforces its commitment to providing convenient, free, and sustainable access to drinking water in public spaces, especially during the hottest months. The initiative allows residents and visitors to easily stay hydrated while walking, playing sports, or enjoying the city, while also promoting more responsible and healthy consumption habits.
The mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, emphasized that this project responds to citizens' demands and the city council's commitment to "a more comfortable, healthy, and sustainable city." "With these new drinking fountains, we want every resident of Castellón to be able to drink fresh, high-quality water while walking, playing sports, or enjoying our city, especially during the warmer months. It's a practical measure, useful for everyday life, and it also helps us reduce the use of plastic bottles and protect the environment," the mayor explained.
For her part, Elena Llopis, CEO of Facsa, emphasized that “we are proud to participate in a project like this with the Castellón City Council, because it allows us to showcase the value of the city's water.” Llopis stressed that “Castellón has excellent water, of very high quality, and a great service, and Facsa will always support the City Council in these types of projects.”.
Each chilled water dispenser features filtration and cooling systems to provide fresh, high-quality water. They also incorporate ultraviolet light lamps, reinforcing hygiene and safety with each use, and facilitate the refilling of reusable bottles, promoting more sustainable consumption habits and reducing the use of single-use plastic containers.
More hydration points in the city
These five new refrigerated fountains are in addition to the seven filtered water points already operating in different neighborhoods of Castellón, located on Honori Garcia street number 37, Joaquín Costa street number 7, Alcalde Tárrega street number 38, Amalio Gimeno street between numbers 7 and 9, Maestro Falla street number 18, Pintor Porcar square and Camino Segunda Travesera number 16 bis.
Reinforcement of 9 conventional drinking water sources
In addition, the City Council is reinforcing the public water supply network with nine new conventional drinking water fountains distributed throughout the city: two new facilities on Avenida del Mar, a fountain in the coastal park, another in Plaza Corona d'Aragó, a new facility in the Sensal area next to the bio-healthy equipment, as well as new fountains in Parque Roselló, Plaza Miguel Bellido, Parque Mérida and Plaza Pintor Porcar.
With these improvements, Castellón now has a total of 133 drinking water points available to residents and visitors. The City Council expects all the new facilities, including the refrigerated fountains, to be operational throughout June. In this way, the Castellón City Council and Facsa continue to make progress in consolidating an accessible and sustainable public water network, aimed at improving the well-being of citizens, promoting the consumption of tap water, and contributing to the creation of healthier and more environmentally friendly urban spaces.
