The Burriana City Council has awarded Facsa the contract for the maintenance and operation of the recently constructed hydraulic infrastructure integrated into the municipal sewage and stormwater drainage network. The contract, aimed at maximizing the city's capacity to respond to and drain heavy rainfall events, is valued at €32,468.63 annually and has a two-year term, with the possibility of a two-year extension.
The object of the contract focuses on the technical supervision and preventive maintenance of three strategic facilities for the control of floods and wastewater: the Serratella drainage system, the automatic gates located in the first branch of Finello (opposite La Llosa street) —responsible for regulating the discharge from the Séquies pumping station— and the EBAR Mediterráneo 3 pumping station, located next to the roundabout with Jaime Chicharro avenue.
The Serratella system, in which over one million euros were invested to restore drainage to the sea between Camí Ballester and La Coixa, features two Archimedes screws with a combined weight of 40 tons. Capable of raising water 2.20 meters and evacuating a total of 2,900 liters per second (1,450 l/s each), these installations have already proven their effectiveness by activating automatically and preventing major damage during the storms of July 2025, which brought rainfall of up to 50 liters per hour, strong winds, and hail. They channeled the water directly to the sea, mitigating the area's historical flooding.
All of these infrastructures will be continuously operational and monitored through their integration into the SCADA remote control system managed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This connection will allow for immediate alerts in the event of any incident and ensure the rapid response of specialized personnel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Councillor for Public Works, Mario Trullén, emphasized "the importance of this contract in ensuring the full functionality of facilities that have been a landmark in protecting our coastline and neighborhoods from torrential rains." He added that "entrusting preventative maintenance to a specialized firm allows us to offer the residents of Burriana, especially in areas like Serratella and Grao, the peace of mind of having drainage infrastructure that is always ready.".
