Acasa installs more than 5,000 smart meters in Alcúdia

The mayor of Alcúdia, Bàrbara Rebassa, has visited the new offices of Aguas Canalizadas de Alcúdia (Acasa) to learn in detail about the remote reading project that has completed its first phase with the installation of 5,456 smart meters, which represents 60% of the total number of meters in the municipality.

ACASA, which since its incorporation into Facsa has made a firm commitment to the digitalization of the water supply service, explained to the mayor this and other projects already developed under the Drinking Water Network Improvement Plan that have allowed for a 15-point increase in the Hydraulic Technical Performance of the supply network, which translates into savings of more than 600,000 m³3 annual, equivalent to the average consumption of more than 3,500 homes in a year.

It is worth noting that the remote meter reading project – which uses Narrow Band IoT (NB-IoT) technology – represents a step forward in transforming Alcúdia into a Smart City, as it allows for remote meter reading by both the utility company and individual users. Furthermore, this system will enable residents to analyze their consumption patterns by accessing real-time information and configure personalized alerts for potential leaks or unusually high consumption, thus preventing water waste and the associated costs of excessive usage.

On the other hand, this technology – which helps to involve society and raise awareness about water use – also offers important advantages in service management, such as reducing estimates and errors in readings and preparing hydraulic balances to optimize leak reduction and improve performance.

In this regard, the mayor stated that “the company is doing a great job in reducing leaks. Two years ago, we controlled 401% of the municipality's total water supply; now ACASA controls 601% and aims to reach 801%. I am very pleased with these results and the progress being made.”.

FACSA, the company that has included ACASA since 2020, has a long history of over 145 years, prioritizing technology and digitalization as fundamental pillars for improving service. Now, as a result of this commitment, it brings together various digital solutions for the intelligent management of the entire water cycle under the Waternology by Facsa brand, all designed according to criteria of cybersecurity, transparency, innovation, and sustainability.
