  • The Management Consortium of the Protected Landscape of the Mouth of the Millars River awarded the service to the company last year.

Thanks to its invaluable landscape and ecological significance, the mouth of the Millars River—the most important river in the province of Castellón—was the first area in the Valencian Community to be declared a Protected Landscape by the Valencian government. Its natural richness and high biodiversity, particularly in birdlife, further justify its inclusion in the Natura 2000 European network and its protected status as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) and a Site of Community Importance (SCI).

Due to these characteristics, the wetland area—located between the municipalities of Vila-real, Borriana, and Almassora—requires thorough monitoring and maintenance to ensure its proper conservation. These tasks, awarded to FACSA last year, include monitoring access points and the surrounding area, controlling authorized activities and uses within the zone, and providing information to visitors about the environmental values and regulations of the site.

This was reported last Tuesday by Terra Viva, the environmental program of the Valencian channel À Punt, which dedicated a report to the invaluable work carried out by rural guards of FACSA such as David López.

In addition to these tasks, FACSA is also responsible for the maintenance and conservation of the equipment installed in this protected area, ensuring the cleanliness of the roads, paths and access routes, maintaining the drainage and irrigation system of the plantations and trees and carrying out the tasks of clearing, removal and elimination of waste and plant remains.

The Mijares River is the most important waterway in the province of Castellón. It rises at an altitude of 1,600 meters in the province of Teruel and flows into the Mediterranean Sea between the municipalities of Almazora and Burriana. This final stretch forms a delta with three branches and two channels, known as Les Goles, a wetland area notable for its biodiversity, especially its birdlife.

The Protected Landscape covers an area of 424 hectares, comprising the riverbed and some riverside areas of the municipalities of Almazora, Burriana and Vila-real, from the CV-10 road bridge to the mouth at the sea.
